Rough Electrical Wiring

The rough wiring of your house will usually begin after the roof structure is on and everything is “dried in.” This means there is no potential for a sudden rainstorm to get any electrical wiring wet. After you have assembled the materials, the next step is to mark where all the fixtures will go in your house. The layout markings will include the location of switches, electrical outlets, light fixtures, heavy appliances, and anything that needs to be connected to the electrical system. The plans should show the two-dimensional (2-D) location of electrical outlets, light switches, and light fixtures. The elevations of these boxes are determined by state electrical codes. In most states, the Department of Labor and Industries will do an inspection of your rough electrical work before you cover it to make sure it is all to code. All rough electrical will run through the stud partition walls on interior walls. In the ceiling, wiring will be surface mounted in conduit to the ceiling structure or run through a suspended or false ceiling.
